ncis hawaii is a good formula to crib from, because that makes this a team show, meaning daniel dae kim and grace park get more screen time than if the show focused more heavily on the white leads.  alex o’loughlin (henceforth captain moonlight) is still The Boss, but dae kim is equal to scott caan, and in-continuity grace park is an actual rookie.

she was taken hostage again, but got to keep her shirt on this time.  captain moonlight promised to try to keep her out of danger in the future, wait and see on that front.  he also dangled an uncommunicative suspect over a ledge thirty stories up, and was immediately called out on that as bullshit by scott caan’s danno.

new white teenage hacker sidekick, we’ll likely see him again.  white eastern-european villians this week (peter stormare in a goatee!).  captain moonlights sister hasn’t shown up yet, but neither has masi oka’s coroner character, so that all balances out.  mostly.

it would still be nice to have even a single indigenous hawaiian character on the show, primarily because having captain moonlight lecture danno about his mainlander habits feels ridiculous, although that adds punch when caan snarks him right back about his stiffness and jack bauery.
