the phantom menace

the best part of the arlen specter fiasco is all the republicans proclaiming against a democratic majority, declaring a faux-moderate concern against either party getting a filibuster-proof majority, having free reign over the government, and getting their way without checks and balances.

mainly because this is exactly as amusing as it would be if it were the democrats saying the same things about a republican filibuster-proof majority.  nobody thinks that one party having absolute power is bad, they just want it to be their party.

it’s also moderately ridiculous when specter himself claims that it’s not a move to get re-elected.  it kind of doesn’t matter if it is or isn’t, it’s too easy an answer for most people not to simply go with that.  he’d be better off just declaring that he was doing it because the dems now have better snacks back at their clubhouse.

which is probably not out buzzing major national landmarks as i write this.
